MVU Applications

Airports and Airport Fire Departments
Of all large structure fires, tunnel fires can present the greatest challenges. Heat and smoke can quickly develop to a level that reduces survivability and hampers fire fighting and rescue operations. An MVU can be effectively used to remove smoke and heat from a tunnel. Once ventilation has started, fire and rescue personnel can approach the seat of the fire with clearer visibility and greatly reduced temperatures. Regardless of the MVU location or direction of ventilation, heat is reduced, harmful gases are ventilated and chances of survival improve dramatically.

Municipal Fire Departments
The MVU has proven to be a valuable tool for airport fire departments. As cargo and passenger jets become larger and more common, ARFF teams are having to develop new equipment and techniques to handle emergencies. The MVU allows them to apply PPV in new ways to quickly ventilate large aircraft, airport terminal buildings, hotels and parking structures. With its unique misting system, the MVU also offers new methods for dealing with terrorist threats and mass decontamination situations.

Tunnel Firefighting/Railroads
The MVU is ideally suited for ventilation of large structures such as high-rise and industrial buildings. The structures’ large size and multiple chambers can make locating a fire and applying water a difficult task. Search and rescue personnel attempting to locate victims are at greater risk because of the time required to get into and out of a large structure. By using the MVU in these situations, fire and rescue personnel can work in a much safer environment and reduce the amount of time they are required to remain inside a burning structure.
