Airports and
Airport Fire Departments
Of all large structure fires, tunnel fires can present the greatest challenges.
Heat and smoke can quickly develop to a level that reduces survivability and
hampers fire fighting and rescue operations. An MVU can be effectively used to
remove smoke and heat from a tunnel. Once ventilation has started, fire and rescue
personnel can approach the seat of the fire with clearer visibility and greatly
reduced temperatures. Regardless of the MVU location or direction of ventilation,
heat is reduced, harmful gases are ventilated and chances of survival improve
dramatically.
